Groundwater in the Active Layer

At the beginning of the active layer melting (more or less in the middle of June), multiparameters probes (water level, T and EC) were inserted within piezometers (appositely built for the project) for the continuative monitoring of melting evolution and groundwater flow above the permafrost.
Melting waters were also sampled by a low-flow pump from piezometers both for measurement of physical-chemical parameters (pH, EC, T, alkalinity) and collecting bottle to be analyzed in laboratory. The operations also interested a small spring (Ester spring) located between Ny-Alesund and the Zeppelin Mountain and they were performed several times in the period to verify the processes evolution.
