Glacier melting can cause the release in the environment of microorganisms and organic/ inorganic compounds (including contaminants) stored inside for a long time. In this context, two field campaigns were carried out in spring and summer 2022 in the Bayelva River catchment, from its glaciers and periglacial/proglacial systems up to the fjord, in a marine sector significantly affected by the river. Samples were analyzed for culturable heterotrophic bacteria and total prokaryotes, microbial enzymatic activities, and total chlorophyll-a.
